What Steadex is

Steadex is a collectible field guide. It can identify plants, animals, produce, and homestead items from your photos using cloud AI services, and it keeps a journal of your finds with notes, progress, and badges.

Identifications can be wrong

AI identifications, confidence scores, and the facts, care notes, and safety information shown with them can be incomplete or wrong. They are for general interest and education only, not expert, medical, veterinary, or foraging advice.

Never eat, touch, handle, or use a plant, mushroom, animal, or substance, or treat a person or animal, based on an app identification alone. Confirm with a qualified local expert.

Your account

AI identification, purchases, and backups require a Steadex account, which currently uses Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your device secure.

Free scan and Steadex Pro

Each Steadex account includes one free AI identification in total; it does not reset. The field guide, journal, badges, and saved discoveries do not require a subscription.

Steadex Pro is an optional auto-renewing monthly subscription (US$9.99 per month in the United States; your app store shows your local price before you buy) that includes up to 30 AI identifications per day, resetting at 00:00 UTC.

Payment is charged to your Apple Account or Google Account when you confirm the purchase. Steadex Pro renews monthly unless you cancel it before the renewal date (on the App Store, at least 24 hours before the current period ends). Manage or cancel it in your app store's subscription settings. Deleting your account or the app does not cancel a subscription. Your app store handles payments and refunds under its own policies.

Scans may be briefly limited to protect the service from automated abuse, and identification may be temporarily unavailable when service capacity is reached or a provider is down.

Your content

You keep ownership of the photos and notes you add. You give us permission to process them only as needed to identify your scans, store your optional backups, and operate the app, as described in the Privacy Policy. Only scan photos you have the right to use.

Acceptable use

Do not use automated means to send scans, try to get around scan allowances or purchases, interfere with the app or its servers, attempt unauthorized access, or reverse engineer the app except where the law expressly allows it.

Third-party services

Steadex relies on Apple, Google Play, RevenueCat, Supabase, Vercel, Anthropic, and Google. Their terms apply to their services, and we are not responsible for their availability.

Availability

We may change, suspend, or discontinue features, catalog content, or AI providers. Keep a backup of anything you want to keep; local data can be lost, for example if the app is removed.

No warranty

To the extent permitted by law, Steadex is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, including accuracy of identifications, uninterrupted operation, or protection from data loss.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Thomistico LLC is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, for loss of data, or for injury, illness, or loss arising from reliance on an identification. Any liability that cannot be excluded is limited to the amount you paid for Steadex in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under law that cannot be limited.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms; the date above changes when we do. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Minnesota, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
